The Epic of the Celestials is an ancient creation myth about the first sun dragon and the first moon dragon, dated to over 3500 years ago. The author is unknown. It is an epic legend of tragic love.

As the first sun dragon journeyed the sky, as he did everyday, he set eyes on the moon dragon and instantly fell in love with her. Smitten, he created an orb of dirt for the moon dragon, which later became the earth we know today. The moon dragon loved this gift, and the two fell in love. They had ten children, which became the primary dragons. But soon, the couple realized that if they stayed together any longer, they would have to separate forever. For their children, which lived on earth, needed both night and day to survive, and night and day could not coexist. The sun and moon could not rule the same sky at once. So they had to remain separate.
