The lava dragon was the first to undeniably establish that some dragons use magic to fly. While its wings are more than enough to bring it aloft as a juvenile, they remain the same size throughout its life. This creates a somewhat awkward looking adult appearance that it probably wouldn't enjoy you pointing out.

The Lava Dragon is a hybrid dragon with the elements Fire and Earth. It's main element is Fire.

Appearance[]

The lava dragon is a large, bulky dragon with very small front limbs and a large underbite, leading into a throat pouch believed to be used for either courting or magic storage. A fair portion of its body is coated in black, stony spines, and its scales are a deep reddish color, with a lighter red underbelly and thin, glowing orange stripes across its body, resembling cracks in a lava flow. These patterns are not present on hatchlings and develop as the dragon gets older. Its wings are a very minuscule size as an adult, as they remain the same size throughout its life- they are proportionally quite large on babies. The dragon is believed to use magic to fly, as its wings alone do not provide enough lift to bring its bulky body into the air.

If attacked, a lava dragon can shoot out a stream of molten lava at opponents, causing serious damage to anything that can't handle the heat. This dragon also has incredible jaw strength and a bite from one would easily break bones.

Defenses[]

The heat radiating off of this dragon is immense, touching it would burn any dragon not of the fire element. This alone serves as a good enough defense mechanism to ward off most predators.

Lava dragons are actually quite docile creatures. Given that they are scavengers, they have no reason to kill for food so they hardly ever get into fights with other dragons
